What is a transfer assignment?

Transfer occurs when you can successfully use the knowledge gained from writing that essay as well as your understanding of different genres to re-write your argument for a persuasive email.

For the purpose of the transfer assignment, you will be repurposing material from the essay as well as showing your awareness of a new audience, purpose and genre in the second part of the assignment.

Transfer assignment includes two parts:

Part 1: PAIBOC (Purpose, Audience, Information, Benefit, Objections, Context) 15%

PAIBOC: To write your persuasive email, you need to complete a document named PAIBOC, which prepares you for writing an email. The attached document comprises 6 components that will assist you in presenting your awareness of a new audience, purpose and genre to repurpose materials from the essay and write a persuasive email. Each of these components has been explained clearly. Please read the general explanations about each component carefully. Next, based on your essay material, respond to each component. PAIBOC Questions and analysis

Purpose

What is the purpose of your communication? What do you hope to achieve? What results do you want?

 

Audience

Who is your audience? Are they inside or outside your community? What are their expectations? What do they care about? What do they value? What do they know? What do they need to know? How will they feel about your message? Does your audience expect to receive your message? Given the purpose, the audience, and the content of your message, what method of communication is appropriate for sending your message to this audience: a letter, an e-mail, a text message, a telephone call, a tweet, a blog post, a message on social networking sites, others (except for smoke signals, carrier pigeons, messages in a  bottle, telegrams, and faxes)?

Based on your purpose and audience analysis, what information must your message include?

 

Benefits

Based on your purpose and audience analysis, what benefits can you use to meet your audience’s needs and achieve your purpose?

 

Objections

Based on your audience and purpose analysis, what objections can you expect from your audience? What negative aspects of your message must you de-emphasize, or overcome?

 

Context

How does the context affect audience response? What circumstances—economic, environmental, legal, and/or organizational—might influence how your audience will perceive the message?

Write an email in which you re-purpose your academic argument essay and transfer your knowledge of the core concepts. The following explains how your email will be graded.

In the latest news article “Cosmetic surgery is on the rise; new data reveal social media is influencing young people to make drastic physical changes” (Townley, 2019 p. 1). They have mentioned that Physical enhancements have been euphemized in pop culture today. The findings showed that “women who rated their self-esteem, life satisfaction, and attractiveness as low, had few religious beliefs, and had high media exposure were more likely to undergo cosmetic surgery” (Townley, 2019 p. 1).

Plastic surgery was first introduced in the health industry to help body tissue defects due to illness, trauma or birth defects. Overtime, it has exploited in society, and marketed to appeal to vulnerable young women and men. The targeting audience often are people who have deep rooted insecurities with their physical appearances. Exploiting people’s vulnerabilities is a tactic used in such industries to attract traffic.

I am concerned that the younger generation is making decisions prematurely because their favorite popstar or icon has undergone similar procedures. People compare themselves to others, and want to look “flawless”, not truly understanding the dangers behind these operations. I believe that there should be more consultation and psychological evaluations done before patients are approved for their specific surgeries. Perhaps, the health ministry should also implement a stricter age restriction on certain plastic surgeries, especially those that require anesthesia. These impulsive decisions often lead to severe regret and psychological effects and should be taken more seriously by clinics.

I hope you are able to consider my recommendations and reshape the way we approach and handle plastic surgeries amongst young people. Although, some of these procedures only take a few minutes, they have long lasting impact on people’s lives.

Students are unable to attend a traditional brick and mortar school, whether it be from living in a rural location or a student having a disability that restricts them from attending classes. Learning should be promoted and not frowned upon.

Introducing an alternative online program for high school students could be a tremendous benefit to the province of Ontario. Allowing high school students to learn online will greatly improve quality of life for rural Ontario students who do not have convenient access to public education. The latest report that has been released by the Education Departments National Center for education statistics in 2019 showed that post secondary enrolment dropped by nearly 90,000 students nationwide in the United States.

Furthermore, an article published in “Distance Learning” written by Horn (2010) explains the benefits of online learning in secondary school, while showcasing a company named K-12. K-12 is based out of Virginia and is an industry leading online educator, providing education to more than 1 million students in the United States.

When online classes are correctly programmed, professional instructors are carefully selected for these programs, and they receive the best online training and access to the course specialists that can be more beneficial to the students. Therefore, the quality of education will not be affected by this switch to online learning.

I am asking you to investigate the problem that is hindering rural high school students in Ontario. Children are the future of the province and we must be able to provide the necessary tools and resources to allow these students to grow and learn without any restrictions.
