Summary of the findings from result section.
Does the study meet the aims purposed and does the hypothesis confirm what we thought in the beginning?
Have the assumptions have been met or not, how do the findings relate to previous research?
The aims of the present study are to
[1] determine whether listening to music can have an effect on an individual’s emotions/well-being depending on whether the music match/does not match the participant’s mood,
[2] contribute to the existing evidence regarding the influence of music exposure on cognitive performance and determine whether using an emotional regulation strategy will enhance the effects of the music and
[3] explore whether there are any significant differences in responses to the music based on biological sex
Hypothesis
The hypothesis is that there will be a significant difference in both mood and cognitive function between people exposed to mood matching music and those subjected to mismatching music. Additionally, this is expected to be true for both positive and negative valence and there are expected to be more enhanced effects in this replication of the experiment due to the use of the emotional regulation strategy.
Discussion
Discussion: Implications
You need to indicate why your study was important both theoretically and
practically.
Here you must relate what you found to already existing literature, as presented in my introduction.
• If your study added anything to the existing theory on a particular topic, you talk about this here as
well.
• This might involve new literature citations if the finding was unexpected and could not have been
predicted by previous studies.
• How has your study contributed to academic research?
PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS
• Here you need to identify how your study can help people in their real-world experiences related to
your topic.
• In what way might other professionals and persons be interested in your topic?
• Could your topic have long term implications in the public sector, or for government?
LIMITATION
As you analyse and consider the implications of you study, you are going you realise there are things you could have done differently.
Things you could have done but didn’t: state why, for example where the restrictions due to the pandemic?
Questions you didn’t ask but could have: Do not ignore the things; it is better to forthrightly state these for the reader, showing you understand how your methodology may have limited your findings. No undergraduate research can do everything.
Explain why the study is limited in either; 1- generalisability or practical application
2- theoretical application
State how you think it could be done differently in this sub-section: meaning making suggestions for the future
Further research
What have you discussed in the limitations section will guide what is written here
Where there is limitation acknowledged these can form the basis for future research.
There may also be other things that could be studied, however as a result what have you found.
What would other people say are the gaps your study left unstudied on your study: these should be identified with some suggestions on how they may be studied.
