 Part 1 – Construct a Frequency Table: Organize your data into exactly 5 groups/categories of
exactly equal width. Your table must include 3 columns:
o Data group ranges (must all be of equal width)
o Frequency (i.e. how many data values fall within that specific range/grouping)
o Relative Frequency (use 3 decimal places)
 Part 2 – Construct a Frequency Chart: Create a Frequency Chart (a bar chart) based upon the
information you organized in your frequency table (specifically the information in your Frequency
column). Your chart MUST include the following criteria:
o Chart Title
o Axis Labels: for both Axes, show tick marks (numeric values) and what the axis represents
 Part 3 – Construct a Pie Chart: Create a Pie Chart based upon the information you organized in
your frequency table (specifically the information in your Relative Frequency column). Your chart
MUST include the following criteria:
o Chart Title
o Legend: indicating what each sector represents as well as its affiliated percentage

 Part 4 – Calculate Data Statistics: For your chosen data set, calculate the following:
o Number of Data Values
o Minimum Value
o Maximum Value
o Mean Value
o Median Value
o Mode
o Frequency of Mode
o Range
o Quartile 1
o Quartile 2
o Quartile 3
o Inter-Quartile Range
o Sum of Data Values
o Sum of Squared Deviations
o Standard Deviation (for sample)
 Part 5 – Construct a Box-Plot: Identify your 5-Number Summary and using the following link

create a box-plot. Download your box-plot or create a snippet to save it as an image. From the
box-plot you have created, answer the following:
o Which quartile has the largest spread of data?
o Which quartile has the smallest spread of data?
 Part 6 – Answer the Following Questions:
o “Which of the 3 data statistics (Mean, Median or Mode) best represents your data set AND
WHY?” Your response MUST include reasons why AND why not the others may/may not
be the best choices.
o “Do you think your data distribution is symmetrical, skewed left, or skewed right?” Base
your answer solely on the relationship between your mean and median.
Project Submission:
You will complete all your calculations and work in Excel after which you will submit the required
elements and responses using the Data Project link located in Blackboard on the Units tab. As you
enter your responses, you will notice that they will automatically save. As such, you do NOT need to
complete all parts in one sitting. You can SAVE and close the window/tab and return at a later time to
complete by simply clicking the Data Project link again. You can only submit this assignment ONCE.
It is important to note that your responses for Parts 2, 3 & 5 will require you to upload images. Please
make sure these images are saved using the following formats only: PDF, GIF, PNG or JPEG.
