Relationships are never an easy thing. Whether it is a relationship with your parents, siblings, children, or significant other. One of the most important things to have in a relationship is communication.

Relationships are never an easy thing. Whether it is a relationship with your parents, siblings, children, or significant other. One of the most important things to have in a relationship is communication. According to the textbook communication is “An interactive process that uses symbols like words and gestures to both send and receive messages.” (Seccombe, 2015) Communication, in my opinion, is one of the most important factors in a relationship. I feel like when there is no communication, there are many things that can go wrong. In communicating, we are expressing ourselves and also letting the other person know how we are feeling and trying to help them understand or make a point. Communicating can also help us create boundaries and helps make the relationship better. When there is no communication many things can go wrong and then we have conflict in the relationship. Sometimes when we do not communicate things correctly it can also cause conflict. Not being on the same page with your partner for instance, can even cause the relationship to end. Disagreements can cause people to not talk to each other for a long time if not never speak again. Misunderstanding happen all the time. I think this is why communication plays such a vital role. Also, I believe that there are times that it is not what you say but more like how you say things. The tone in your voice, the attitude behind it, your hand gestures, your facial expression. All that ties into communication. Power is also something that I have seen in relationship. One partner might feel like they have more rights or power than the other. Not treat them equally because they feel more powerful. This can be because one partner makes more money than the other so they feel like they can control the other person. This is something that can also bring conflict to a relationship. In relationships I think that er should treat each other equally.
