In this Pause & Practice project, you format a resume for Richelle Wilkinson. This resume is a two-page
document, and you change the margins, set tab stops and leaders, and use indents.
File Needed: Resume-02.docx Completed Project File Name: [your initials] PP W2-1.docx
1. Open the Resume-02 document from your student data files.
2. Save this document as [your initials] PP W2-1.
3. Change the margins of the resume.
a. Click the Layout tab.
b. Click the Page Setup launcher [Page Setup group] to open the Page Setup dialog box
(Figure 2-26). Alternatively, click the Margins button and select Custom Margins.
c. Type .75 in the Top text box in the Margins area and press
Tab to move to the Bottom text box.
d. Type .75 in the Bottom text box.
e. Click the down arrow to the right of the Left text box to
change the left margin to 1″.
f. Click the down arrow to the right of the Right text box to
change the right margin to 1″.
g. Click the Apply to drop-down list at the bottom of the dialog
box and select Whole document if it is not already
selected.
h. Click OK to apply the new margin settings and close the
dialog box.
4. Set a right tab stop with a dash leader.
a. Select the “Loomis, CA October 2017 Present” text below
“HEAD TEACHER, LOOMIS LEARNING CENTER.”
b. Click the Paragraph launcher [Layout or Home tab] to open the Paragraph dialog box.
c. Click the Tabs button in the bottom-left corner of the Paragraph dialog box to open the Tabs
dialog box (Figure 2-27).
d. Type 6.5 in the Tab stop position area.
e. Select the Right radio button in the Alignment area.
f. Select the 3 (dash leader) radio button in the Leader area.
g. Click the Set button to set this tab stop and leader.
h. Click the OK button to close the dialog box.
5. Use the Format Painter to apply the tab setting to multiple
areas of the resume.
a. Place the insertion point in the line you just formatted.
b. Double-click the Format Painter button [Home tab,
Clipboard group].
c. Click each of the city, state, and date lines in the
“EXPERIENCE” and “EDUCATION” sections to apply the
tab settings as shown in Figure 2-28.
d. Click the Format Painter button to turn off copy format.
6. Remove an existing tab stop and set a left tab stop.

a. Select the lines of text below the
“REFERENCES” heading on the second
page.
b. Click the Paragraph launcher [Layout or
Home tab] to open the Paragraph dialog
box.
c. Click the Tabs button to open the Tabs
dialog box.
d. Select the existing tab stop (2.5″) in the Tab
stop position area and click the Clear button
to remove the existing tab.
e. Type 3.75 in the Tab stop position area.
f. Select the Left radio button in the Alignment area if it is not already selected.
g. Select the 1 None radio button in the Leader area if it is not already selected.
h. Click the Set button to set the left tab stop (Figure 2-29).
i. Click the OK button to close the dialog box.
7. Apply a left and right indent to selected text.
a. Place the insertion point in the paragraph
below the “PROFILE” heading on the first
page.
b. Click the Layout tab.
c. Type .25 in the Left indent area [Paragraph
group] and press Tab.
8. Save and close this document (Figure 2-30)
