In this Pause & Practice project, you modify the resume from Pause & Practice 2-1. You add a header that
appears only on the second page of the document and insert a document property field, page number, and
Word field into the header.

In 2021, Microsoft released an update to how contextual tabs are named. This
page has been revised to reflect the update.
1. Open the [your initials] PP W2-1 document completed in Pause & Practice 2-1.
2. Save this document as [your initials] PP W2-2.
3. Edit the document properties.
a. Click the File tab to open the Backstage view and select Info if necessary.
b. Type Richelle Wilkinson in the Title document property text box.
c. Click the Back arrow to return to the resume.
4. Insert a document property field in the header of the resume.
a. Place the insertion point at the beginning of the first page.
b. Click the Insert tab.
c. Click the Header button [Header & Footer group] and select Edit Header from the drop-down
list. The header on the first page opens.
d. Click the Document Info button [Header & Footer tab, Insert group] and select Document
Title from the drop-down list. The Title document property displays in the header.
e. Leave the header open for the next instruction.
5. Insert a page number and number of pages field in the header and set it to display only on the
second page.
a. Press the right arrow key once to deselect the inserted document property field.
b. Press Tab two times to move to the right margin.
c. Type Page and space once.
d. Click the Page Number button [Header & Footer group], select Current Position from the
drop-down list, and select Plain Number. The page number displays in the header.
e. Space once, type of, and space once.
f. Click the Document Info (or Quick Parts) button [Header & Footer tab, Insert group] and
select Field from the drop-down list. The Field dialog box opens (Figure 2-45).
g. Select NumPages in the Field names area
(this is the field code to insert the total
number of pages in the document).
h. Select 1, 2, 3 in the Format area and click
OK to insert the number of pages in the
header.
i. Press Enter two times to insert two blank
lines after the header.
j. Check to ensure proper spacing is used
between each of the words and page
numbers.

k. Check the Different First Page check box
[Header & Footer tab, Options group]. This removes the header content from the first page,
but the header content displays on the second page (Figure 2-46).

l. Click the Close Header and Footer button [Close group] to close the header and return to
the document.
6. Save and close the document (Figure 2-47).
