1) Creating a Gantt Chart (10 marks)
Download and install the tool “ProjectLibre”. You can download Windows, Linux, and MAC versions of

a) Create your own Gantt chart with at least 6 tasks (use can use an example from class) and look at
the automatically generated Network view (also called the PERT view). Include both views (Gantt
and PERT) in your assignment (use cut & paste tools). (6 marks).
b) Add a “Type” column to your Gantt chart. (1 mark).
c) Show, or indicate, the critical path on the Gantt chart and explain why it is called the critical path. (3
marks)
NOTE #1: You can also rename the tasks to something more meaningful to you (or reuse the
example we did in class).
NOTE #2: ProjectLibre uses the term “Network view” in place of “PERT view” (used by
GanttProject). We will use the terms interchangeably.
NOTE #3: ProjectLibre is preferred over GanttProject because it allows you to enter fractional days
for task durations (for example, 4h=0.5 days). However, if you have issues in installing ProjectLibre
you can install and use GanttProject instead.
