This concept is about cultural diversity among Chinese Americans. Asian Americans have historically been misrepresented as a monolithic group. However, in this broad category lies significant diverse perspectives. The cultural experience of Chinese Americans was significantly influenced by Americans. Chinese are very conservative about their culture and worked hard to protect their culture. However, to some extent America tried to assimilate Chinese (Takaki, 1989). Americans had a counter tradition and vision stemming from the reality of cultural and racial diversity. Chinese Americans faced significant identity issues. They were determined to retain their Chinese culture while working in the U.S. Chinese society is all about the entire group while Americans celebrate the individual. In the U.S., Americans value meritocracy where each citizen can shine. In Chinese culture, success is regarded as a success for the entire group, family or team. Furthermore, interracial marriages between Asian races have made understanding their complex culture difficult.
Social issue messaging through entertainment like music trends has been limited to specific artists. Gender discrimination, mental health awareness, and bullying songs are rarely made in the American music industry. Korean artists, however, are a lot more involved with their fandoms, for example appealing to American fans who find their music as an emotional support system. This shows how much Korean culture has a larger engagement base in the U.S. Plastic surgery began in Korea. Beauty standards have been set by Korean artists. Korean Americans have been part of the “attractive” groups in the U.S. People have been traveling to Seoul in South Korea to get cosmetic surgeries to improve their looks and lean into looking like Koreans. This has shown how Korean originality has influenced the external regions.
After the Asians look for their voices and air them. Instead of being heard, they were humiliated and used to make things that only benefited the Americans. According to an image known as the virgin mobile, the girl wanted to air out that they should not be isolated just because they came from different races. Instead, they should maintain the Asian geek friends who would be of benefit to them. Instead, she was still viewed as a non-American. They made their assumptions that she was a girl from Asia while in reality, she took the photo in Texas. The Americans’ assumptions are too much that they ended up using the image in an advertisement without her knowledge. Their centric nature is just that only Americans are supposed to enjoy the benefits of being American. In the same way, it happened to the Japanese who were American citizens. They were not given a chance to be heard. Instead, they were constricted in places where privacy was rare, all surrounded. Although not all the Japanese were taken to incarceration, those who were left followed tight rules (Takaki, 2013). They were always questioned and made to make fingerprints which were causing them trauma.)
