1-A cover page
Your cover page should have:
An essay title,
Your name,
2-Describe your injustice (Part I, approx. 2-3 paragraphs)
Include: why you chose this issue.
Include: why it is a justice issue. Be sure to situate your topic within the larger context of justice in the criminal justice system and broader society.
3-Discuss the theory or theories that explain your injustice. (Part II, approx. 1-2 pages)
Incorporate materials from previous criminal justice courses (using in-text citations) to present a compelling analysis of this issue.
4-Review the research on what works and what has failed. (Part III, approx. 2-3 pages)
This part should present research (i.e., empirical evidence) that supports or challenges the theories discussed in Part II.
Include: any current policies/practices on what has been done to address your injustice, whether or not it has been effective, and why/why not.
5-Discuss an action plan that you can carry out to address the injustice. (Part IV, approx. 2-3 pages)
Include: a description of how justice can be achieved through your action plan.
Explain (and support with evidence) how your response is theory-driven and evidence-based.
Compare/contrast your proposed response to the policies/practices that are currently used to address your issue. How is your response better?
6-In your Conclusion (up to 1 page), discuss how your positionality affected your understanding of the issue, and how your positionality and ideology shaped your strategy for achieving justice.
