Your second essay is an argumentative/persuasive piece. Essay 2: Argumentative Essay

English 1302

Your second essay is an argumentative/persuasive piece. The purpose of an argumentative or persuasive essay is to convince your reader that your position on a particular issue is credible.  Argumentation is not about proving that you are right or wrong, but instead about demonstrating that you can support your position with solid evidence, thus presenting a viable perspective.

For this paper, you will develop an argument that is a minimum of 3 completely full pages (all the way to the bottom!!). You will write about this topic:

Should students be permitted to use technology during classes (ie: in the classroom) while activities / lectures are going on? What limitations would you put on the use of devices / computers during classes? What should the penalties be for violating these limitations? Does your position change based on the age and/or grade-level of the student? Why or why not?

Please ensure that your paper addresses each of these questions, but do not feel at all required to use these questions in order! Organize your paper so that the reader can easily follow the logic of your argument.  Be sure that your topic, position, and major points are clearly articulated in a thesis statement of 1-2 sentences (but not more).

Primary sources required: none (but they are permitted, if useful)

Secondary sources required:  3 (all from library resources; no resources from the open internet. Improperly located sources will reduce your paper grade by a letter per improper source.)
