The obstacles should build until the point of no return. The character finds themselves torn between two very difficult decisions—caught between a rock and a hardplace. 2. Act III is the resolution. It begins with the protagonist’s climatic action. It tells us what happens when the character gets or doesn’t get what they want. It answers the dramatic premise of your script. “The resolution presents one last opportunity to reveal something about the story, the characters and their world.” —Dan Gurskis, The Short Screenplay Your resolution should answer your script’s dramatic premise. Some screenwriters opt to write their scripts beginning with the resolution and Act III and working their way backward. If you reach a block in your writing, sometimes reading your script from the resolution to the set-up (backward) can help. Complete writing Act III, your resolution. Check list:Does Act III begin with your protagonist’s climatic action — taking the greatest action of all against the greatest obstacle of all? (Remember, the climatic action is your protagonist’s action — and no one else’s.)Does the resolution answer your dramatic premise? (It must.)Does it show us what happens when the character gets what they want?Your last scene of the resolution should show us the character in almost the opposite place from where they began in scene 1. Are they?
