Write a review of a book that deals with U.S. politics and/or social issues that you have not read. The book should be briefly summarized. Evaluate the author’s main points. 2. Examine and evaluate the official website of two candidates running for the same office: governor, senator or
other. Describe the contents of each. Compare and contrast each.
Note: Take into account that sites change frequently. Visit each more than once.
Some questions that should be answered in your evaluation are:
How useful and thorough is each website? How easily can one navigate the site? Are the important issues addressed
effectively and thoroughly? Are you able to easily find answers to questions you have about the candidate’s stand on
critical issues? (To answer this last question, before visiting the site, come up with three critical issues. While on the
site, see if you can find the candidate’s stand on each issue. If you can, is each issue addressed effectively and clearly?)

Is one’s opponent/s discussed? Fairly? How effective is each in encouraging one to vote for the candidate? Does the
site do a good job soliciting donations for the candidate’s campaign and encouraging volunteering to work on behalf of
the candidate? Explain.
Which candidate were you likely to support prior to viewing the sites? Why? Has this activity strengthened or
weakened your support? Why? Which of the two sites is the most useful for an uniformed and/or undecided voter?
Which does the best job at attracting the support of undecided voters? Explain.
Which site is the most effective? Why? How could each be improved?
