STEP 1: CHOOSE A CURRENT EVENT

You should choose an event that has been reported in the general news or business press (i.e., https://www.forbes.com www.afr.com http://www.smh.com.au/business, http://www.abc.net.au/news/business/) within the previous six months.

STEP 2: ANALYZE CURRENT EVENT

Your task is to show how 1-2 course concepts from the readings in the week you deliver your briefing can illuminate:

1. Why the problematic incident you analyze (e.g., an instance of failing to learn, ineffective coaching, disengagement, resistance to organizational change, or unethical behavior) likely occurred, and
2. How the course concepts you chose might have been applied to handle it more effectively
   

   STEP 3: WRITE YOUR PRESENTATION CONTENT

3. STEP 4: CREATE YOUR SLIDE

   An engaging visual presentation can make or break any oration. Thus, your slide should be legible, clear, and concise. Create ONE slide to utilize as a visual aid for your presentation. When designing your slide keep in mind:

   1. Less is More: Text and complicated graphics can distract your audience – you want them to listen to you. Your slide should have a good balance of images and text. Do not simply read from the slide. It’s best to mainly use images that set the scene as it enables the audience to focus on what you are saying rather than deciphering your slide.
   2. Add a Personal Touch: Personal touches and graphics can allow your audience to understand the impact of your research.
   3. Your Message: Think about how the slide could assist with the format and delivery of your presentation – is there a metaphor that helps explain your topic?

   Be analytical (using course concepts), rather than descriptive of a best practice. Also ensure that you analyze a specific incident (that is, an event that happened on a particular day), rather than discuss a report on workplace trends. Also, how can you use the slides as memory joggers to help you remember your content?
