Advisor Training

Whenever I go to an advisor, I feel like mostly I got nothing out of the meeting because they do not deal with my field of learning. Another issue is that they always sometimes seem like they have no idea what they are doing, and it makes me feel less confident in anything that they are telling me. Along with other students and myself feel like what is the point of them being there when we are still left basically to figure it out ourselves. They should be provided more training on how to handle things that pop up and if they only specialize in one area of field it should be listed with their names and there should be a consoler that specializes in the crime scene tech.

Textbook Exchange Program

With the rising cost of college-related expenses, including textbooks, having a textbook exchange program would be highly beneficial for students, especially those who pay for their education out of pocket. In this scenario, students would be able to bring a textbook they have purchased and are done with (one that is in good condition and still being used by professors) to the library and exchange it for one they need.

Testing Methodology
Regarding online classes, the tests for many courses are directly from the publisher and based on rote memorization. While this understandably makes the workload easier for the Professors, it does not test a student’s understanding of the material. Instead, tests should be drafted by the course professors to test for critical thinking skills based on the materials covered. Students could then use open books and open notes because the answers aren’t taken directly from the book but test their ability to apply the concepts learned. The potential outcome is students who are better versed in the topics being learned, where an understanding of how the information applies to their possible career leads to better retention of the data versus rote memorization, where the information is forgotten immediately after testing. After all, why should students pay for tuition, books, and online course keys when they could just buy the book with course keys and get the same level of education?
