Whilst working within the perioperative environment

Whilst working within the perioperative environment there are many risks that the patients or staff members may be exposed to.  Minimising these risks is achieved through identification and awareness, and this forms part of the risk management strategy.

Students will create a learning resource to identify one area of risk from the clinical environment that can be minimised through awareness.  This learning resource can be in a format of the student’s choice (i.e. poster or leaflet) and will be supported by a 1000-word rationale.

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:
LO 3: Illustrate knowledge of risk management strategies associated with the perioperative environment and the importance of clinical governance
LO 4: Describe the influences within the current clinical environment and how these contribute to perioperative practice

Task requirements
·         The format of the learning resource may be of the students’ choice e.g. Leaflet or poster

·         Choose only one risk and create a learning resource to raise awareness of this

·         Support the learning resource with a 1000-word rationale

·         References must be used to support both the learning resource and rationale and combined into one list at the end of the submission.

·         Whilst the design of the learning resource is up to the student, the rationale must be formatted according to submission guidelines (e.g. 12pt font size & double-spaced)

·         Demonstrate understanding of risk management & clinical governance

·         Use local policy and Trust/National guidelines to support the work.

·         Maintain confidentiality at all times (do not put the name of the trust in which you are placed)

·         The learning resource, rationale & reference list must be combined into one document for electronic submission
