3. What is your point of view in this film, and which of Nichols’ documentary forms will you use: expository, observational, participatory, reflexive, poetic, performative, interactive (chapter 7), and explain why.

My point of view in this film is reflexive and performative. I chose these two because I’ve been through being a college athlete at different levels so some of the things I’m talking about I’ve seen first hand. Then I feel like I will relate to most of the audience I attend to have my film reach. This documentary will show how being a college athlete is like having a full time job.

It requires commitment and dedication that evolves over time. I also want to show there are different paths for everyone. Most people growing up are taught D1 or bust including myself when that’s not the case at all there are plenty of routes you can take to reach your goals. You just have to be open to certain situations presented to you and take full advantage of them.

4. Who do you envision as the audience for this film?

For the film I see highschool athletes looking to play at the next level watching, I see current D1 athletes that aren’t playing the role they expected to tune in to see sometimes the first situation you go to isn’t the right fit for you but that doesn’t mean give up. I also see parents that can’t really afford school watching to see options that help set their child up for success chasing their dreams.

5. What might a reasonably well-educated/informed audience learn from your representation of this topic?

I think the information I have will change the narrative that the title D1 athlete is not the only form of being a successful college athlete. You can have a goal to play D1 but if you don’t get that offer right out of highschool what are you going to do? You don’t have to stop playing your sport I’ve seen kids and parents have too much of a ego and think their too good for any other level and end up not going to school and working a minimum wage job instead of getting a free education at a lower level and continuing to work and eventually you can have another chance at transferring to a D1 in the future. They will see being a college athlete at any level takes commitment, sacrifice, being open to learn new things and being able to make the transition from highschool where things aren’t as serious because once you get to college it becomes more of a business compared to highschool where it’s pretty much playing for fun in most cases.
