What does consent mean? Conversely, what does it not mean? What are some myths surrounding sexual consent?

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing project and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Below is the instructions and materials for the assignment. I also attached the powerpoint slides we went over in class this semester.

Use this video as a jumping off point for an essay you will write about issues surrounding consent in sexual assault and rape cases. You should consult other sources as well, online, or in your textbook for your essay. Directions, Due Date and Grading:

1) Consider addressing any of the following issues, such as: What does consent mean? Conversely, what does it not mean? What are some myths surrounding sexual consent? What of, particularly, the myth that there is a “grey area” of consent? What are the relevant legal issues surrounding consent? Begin your essay with a general discussion about sexual consent, then focus on a particular type of case, such as date rape, child rape, or prison rape, and discuss how the issues you have chosen to discuss bear on those cases.

2) Your essay must be at least three (3) pages in length. Per our syllabus, it must be typed in Microsoft Word – Times New Roman, 1.5 spaced utilizing a 12-point font size, 1 inch margins. Grammatical errors will lower your grade, so proofread your essay before submitting it. Of course, be certain to provide all appropriate citations.
