Part 1: Challenges to Human Security – Socioeconomic

• What do the freedom from want securities looking like in your country? Prior
to conflict and post-conflict?
o Economic conditions
o Food conditions
o Health conditions
o Environmental conditions
• Were issues in these securities key to the onset of violence?
• Are there any areas that show marked improvement? Some improvement?
Worse off?
Part 2: International Community & Future Prospects
• Did your country experience involvement by the international community?
o Peace operations; peacekeeping
o International organization missions
o Increases in foreign bid

Some other type of regional/international involvement unique to the

country’s situation?
• What would you identify as the key challenges that your country’s
population faces going forward?
• How would you rate their human security overall?
o Areas that need more immediate attention?
o Any additional factors that you feel are key for the short-term, long-
term of the population?
Again – this is NOT a history report. You do not need to detail all events and
conditions your country has experienced. Rather, look at your country’s different
socio-economic conditions, trends over the years, clear instances of international
community involvement (and any impact), and discuss the most prevalent changes,
dynamics, etc., essentially leading to a summary of what it all means for human
security in your country.
You do not need to explicitly answer each question I have listed in Parts 1
and 2. They are just to give you an idea of the information you should be
compiling for your country.
To answer the above questions, you are expected to draw on information from
reliable sources – this includes academic and newspaper articles, books, etc.
Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source. Good papers will also engage
material from the course lectures/readings when appropriate.

Format
Papers should be approximately five (5) pages long, double spaced, 12-point font. I
don’t care what font exactly, just make sure its easy to read. No weird margins.
PLEASE include proper name/class info on the first page and page numbers
throughout. This helps me out and I would appreciate it!
