Visual Aid Speech

This assignment is to construct, outline and deliver a 3-5 minute extemporaneous informative speech using visual aid. You may NOT use the same topic you used in a previous speech. The visual aid must be essential to the explanation or significantly reinforce the message(s) of your presentation. You can choose from a variety of visual aids, except video, weapons, food, live animals, or another human being. This is not a demonstration.
If you use PowerPoint,
*Have complete command of the presentation functions. Practice.
*Load presentation onto the computer desktop from a USB drive before the class begins.
(USB drives are easily purchased at the Blue Colt Bookstore and other retailers.)
* Macintosh users should check to see if their PowerPoint works properly on a PC.
Do not let the use of a visual aid make your neglect your verbal delivery. Carefully plan out how you will use your visual aid. Practice is more important than ever because giving a visual
presentation is a more complicated endeavor.
The material should not be obscene or off-color. If you have a question as to the appropriateness of the material, ask.
*There should be no false starts (“Wait, let me start over.”)
*Emphasis should be on the correct words or phrases.
*The piece should be read clearly, without any slurring, mumbling or mispronunciation.
Preparation for this assignment includes:
*Selecting and narrowing your topic
* Constructing the central idea of your speech
* Developing the main ideas that support the central idea
*Practice performing your speech out loud to achieve the best intonation, emphasis, tone, feeling and confidence
You must provide a typed outline to the instructor before you give the speech. This outline must use proper outline formatting and should include:
*Your name
* A Statement of Purpose
(“At the conclusion of my speech, the audience will be able to…”)
*The Central Idea
*The Main Ideas
* Some of the supporting details important to each main idea
* Cited references
