This section of your essay should present clearly your thesis statement

When you write your analytical papers for this
class, you are required to divide your essays into four sections as indicated
in this outline. Each section is necessary in order to clearly describe, analyze,
and provide critical evaluation of the arguments and evidence presented by
each theorist we will cover in the readings assigned. Please make sure to
keep the headings in “blue” as you write your essays, and to cover each of
the areas indicated in bullet point for each section. This will ensure that you
excel in each of your assignments.
I. INTRODUCTION/THESIS STATEMENT
 This section of your essay should present clearly your thesis statement,
which will inform the reader what you will be arguing
 This portion of your essay should also provide the reader with a
roadmap (overview) of how you intend to answer the prompt
question(s), describe how your essay is structured, and what the essay
will cover.

 This portion of your essay you must support your arguments with
clear evidence, primarily, from course readings.
 This means you must use empirical information, examples, and quotes
from course readings, but also from lectures and videos, that are
relevant to your response.

 At this point in the essay, you are simply presenting evidence to
answer the question(s) asked. This evidence should be in support of
your arguments, and should demonstrate breadth and depth of
knowledge of the course material.
 It is very important that demonstrate engagement with the course
readings via referencing the readings and using quotes and/or other
referencing.
 This section of your essay should demonstrate your comprehension of
the facts and information relevant to the question(s) you are answering.
III. ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION/COMPARISONS
 In this section of your essay response, you must analyze, evaluate,
and/or compare the arguments and evidence presented by the
theorist(s)
 This section is important because it contains your opinion, which
should be based on your evaluation of the theorist’s ideas and
arguments.
 Here you need to provide an analysis and evaluation of the strengths
and/or limitations of the theorist(s)’ ideas and arguments. It is your
opportunity to support or criticize the theorists’ ideas.
 This section of your essay offers you the opportunity to support your
arguments/thesis stated in the introduction. Also, it offers you the
opportunity to compare and evaluate what you have read.
IV. CONCLUSION
 This section should wrap-up your response and provide the reader a
take-away message which summarizes what is most important about
your essay.
 Finally, you may want to use your conclusion to go beyond the
theorist’s ideas and include comments regarding the contributions of
the theorists to the sociological understanding of contemporary
society.
