The task

Choose an Australian company.

• Feel free to discuss a company of interest with the unit convener or your tutor.
• Advise the unit convenor of your choice by 5 pm Fri Week 4 (= 24 June).

In relation to your chosen company:

• Introduce the company, its operating environments and current policies and management strategies in relation to sustainability and climate change. This section should be approximately 500 words.
• Critically evaluate the business’s current policies and management strategies in relation to sustainability with reference to relevant research literature and other material. This section should be approximately 1,000 words.
• As a form of critical analysis, present a plan as to how this company’s policies and strategies could be improved to minimise business impacts and to to foster sustainable outcomes. Again, use relevant research literature and other materials to support your analysis and recommendations. This section should be approximately 500 words.
• Finally, reflect on how these developments could be relevant to assist the industry sector in which the company operates to move to more sustainable futures (if possible!).  Again, use relevant research literature and other materials to support your argument. This section should be approximately 500 words.

To help with your critical analysis, you may wish to reflect on your first reflection assignment and how your position may have developed or changed based on the materials, theories and concepts introduced during this unit.

• 2. Understand and critically assess the inter-relationships between businesses and their natural, social, cultural and economic environments and how these affect business’s sustainable futures;
• 3. Understand and analyse the implications of climate change for business in Australia and globally; and
• 4. Evaluate planning and management strategies, policies and industry practices designed to mitigate and / or adapt to climate change and thus to produce more sustainable futures.
