This course employs an interactive e-book hosted on the zyBooks learning platform. As you read the e-book, you will be prompted to answer questions to check your understanding of the content. This will provide you with instant feedback and tips to revise your errors. This is not like a printed textbook where you can skim and skip ahead in the material. The activities build your knowledge as you go through each section. Because the textbook is interactive, it tracks what you’ve accomplished. Your instructor will be tracking your progress to evaluate you on what you have completed.

Activities
The zyBook contains the following interactive activity types:

Participation activities: These activities allow multiple attempts and are autograded, providing instant feedback. You also have the ability to see the correct answer if you get stuck. These are true practice activities that allow you to construct meaning as you work.
Challenge activities: These activities will assess your understanding of the material. Each activity has multiple parts, allows unlimited attempts, and is autograded, providing instant feedback. However, unlike participation activities, you do not have the ability to see the correct answers if you get stuck.
Tips
You can see your progress using the indicators in the right margin. Once you have completed the section, the indicator will be filled in and will have a checkmark. To check your overall progress, click the book title at the top of the page to view all activities for the module. Refer to How to use a zyBook for more detail.
As you go through the interactive textbook, it helps to have multiple tabs or windows open. This will make referencing the lessons as you complete your participation activities easier. The zyBook will keep track of your progress, but if you navigate away from the section you are working on in the same tab, you will no longer be able to see your previous work in the participation and challenge activities.
Grading
Because these weekly readings are essential to your success in this course, you will need to complete all of the zyBooks participation activities for the week in order to earn full credit (10 points). If you complete fewer, you will be graded according to the percentage completed. For example, if you complete 75% of the participation activities, you will earn 75% of 10 points, or 7.5 points. If you complete 50% of the participation activities, you will earn 5 points, and so on.
