Population Health Outcomes: Interpreting Results for Better Science

During this module, we have focused on the importance of understanding populations and the factors affecting that population – from cultural to health disparities – to improve health outcomes. We have also highlighted the importance of data in guiding your approach.  We have talked about the theoretical constructs and practiced doing calculations by hand.  Now, it is time to go deeper into the data and to practice analyzing actual datasets.

Instructions:

You will continue to use the Distracted Driving data and codebook from Module 4.1 to answer the questions in this assignment.

Prior to completing this assignment, be sure to review:

• SPSS Survival Manual Ch. 11 & 18.
• SPSS#5 powerpoint on Module 4.2.
• Optional, SPSS Lab #6 guided lecture on Canvas.

Recommend that you work through this assignment first, and then answer the questions on Canvas using the results you have found.

Please read instructions to each section carefully to understand what type of response you should be giving. This should illustrate that you completed the work yourself and using SPSS.

Part A: Correlations

The questions for this part of the assignment will focus on using Correlations. Practice providing results of your analysis and interpretation as would be written in a professional paper (Hint: see your SPSS book for how to do this). Your text should at least present:

1. Information about the strength of the relationship between the variables (small, medium, large).
2. Information about the direction of the relationship between the variables (positive or negative).
3. The value of the correlation, number of observations, and p-value.

• Information about the distribution of the dependent variable for each category of the independent variable (means and standard deviations).
• F- test value, df, effect size (eta-squared), and significance level (p-value).
• If you need to report Robust test results instead, then report the Welch values.
