FSTC ll Assignment 1: The Project Example
Due week 5: 9/28
Part I
You will be selecting a project made by children and will examine it for evidence of the
skills/techniques, tools/materials, concepts, processes, equipment, environment, and potential
academic language of your studio concentration. You will then make a project example, with a
complete core chart, that is inspired by the project (not replicating it) and make a video recording
(thinking out loud) of the reflective conversation you are having with yourself while you are working.
Part II
Once your Project Example is complete, watch your video and continue completing the studio core
chart. Add additional space as needed. Be attentive to what choices you are making, what you are
thinking about while you are making, how you are holding various tools, what challenges you
experience, and more. Your chart will be a detailed record in which all physical actions and mental
processes are recorded. No detail is too small.
Part III
Once your chart is complete, begin the paper.
INTRODUCTION
In one paragraph, introduce the assignment by describing the children’s artwork that inspired your
project for children and how you utilized it in the making of your project example.
BODY OF PAPER
Share your reflection in detail, incorporating the categories of the studio core chart into your
narrative. Be sure to describe the physical and mental activity in as much detail as possible. As you
describe your own process, take a step back at 5 key points in the process and imagine a few
inquiry-based questions you might pose to a group of children making the project. Consider
questions around physical activity as well as questions around mental activity.
CONCLUSION
In your concluding paragraph raise three questions that this assignment has provoked for you in
terms of the instruction and sequencing of this project.
PROCESS SCREENSHOTS WITH CAPTIONS
Include 10 to 15 images that illustrate the key moments in the process of making your project
example. Add a brief caption with each image explaining the step. Write one possible inquiry-based
question below the caption. The question should be inspired by the physical and mental activity
sections of your core chart.
RECAP OF THE ASSIGNMENT STEPS:
1. Select a children’s work of art in your Studio Core from the archive.
2. Create a project example with a core chart inspired by the children’s work, this is not a
recreation. Be sure to video record your process.
3. Watch your video and complete the studio core chart with the physical and mental activity
sections in detail.
4. Write the paper describing in detail your research and process. This is a formally written
version of what you uncovered in the chart.
5. Select 10-15 moments from your video, screenshot and caption each. Add the inquiry- based
question below the caption.
What I will need to see in your turned in assignment, organized in the order below:
1. A cover page with your full name, date and assignment #
2. A high-quality photo of your complete project example
