General Approach
Presentation of your assessment tasks through various means (tables, diagrams, charts) and the
level of detail/analysis presented in your responses will contribute to achieving a higher mark.
Please read the document ‘general approach to assignments’ available in the Course Resources
booklet on your course Moodle Page so that you understand the level of analysis/ approach to
demonstrating analysis that is sought for study at this level.
Please use the provided Assignment Completion/Marking Guide to structure your responses as this
is the means we use to mark your work/ return comments and marks.

Assumptions
Assumptions should be presented at the start of the question, preferably in a clear format (for
example a table) and systematically address the detail of the assumption, the rationale for its
inclusion and what impact the rationale has on the system design. Maybe a table with 3 columns, to
make it clear.
Each assumption should relate to the question topic (in this case, stakeholders). You might consider
assumptions to be related to questions of clarification that you would ask the business owner,
specific to this topic.
It is clearer to us if you include your assumptions at the start of each response. Note that
assumptions can be given throughout the assessment as well, just be sure to identify them as
assumptions being made (if you just say something is the way it is, without saying you have assumed
it because *insert rationale* then it will not be graded as an assumption as delineation cannot be
determined). Perhaps if you include assumptions in the body of your work (which shows how you
have used assumptions) you could simply repeat them at the start of the response?
E.g. Assumptions could relate to the current state of the system. This information can be derived
from background, but assumptions need to be value-adding and therefore should consider aspects
that may not be explicitly stated in the scenario but need to be clarified in order to answer the
assignment. For example, what has been completed to allow you to assess the stakeholder
assessment? Assumptions could also include aspects such as potential stakeholders (who won’t be
involved and why). Can you assume that stakeholder xyz is fundamental to progress and therefore
must be closely managed? What would you need to include in the system to address that? (all of the
questions are about helping us get closer to specifying our system requirements).
Assumptions should therefore be specific and reflect the system of interest (SOI) and be value adding
to the systems development (i.e. are not a repetition of previous questions’ assumptions).
