PROMISES For Venture Capital And Private Equity In China: A FOCUS ON THE TECH SECTOR

Brief summary of possible plan: (see file attached for full details):
– Private Equity Introduction
– Private Equity in China (the goal is to understand how PE works in China: background, structure, regulations, foreign or domestic funds? main investors etc…)
– Environment in China (the goal is to understand that China is becoming more and more attractive for PE)
– Technology sector (the goal is to show that tech is the fastest growing sector, challenges, opportunities, size, number of investments… threats linked to US/China war, semiconductors)
Looking through research papers, no studies have been previously done on the attractiveness of the tech sector in China for PE and if it is really more attractive than in Europe or the USA.
Hence to do so, I want to study factors that are influencing venture capital and private equity investments in the tech sector.
-My dependent variables would be the total annual investment amount of venture capital and private equity in tech as a percentage of the annual GDP. (data for past 5 years but to be confirmed)
– My independent variables would be related to macroeconomic, entrepreneurial and institutional factors (as previously done in past papers.
What to include exactly still need to be confirmed in order to really capture the current environment and what affects PE investments.
I would do this analysis for China, USA and Europe.
The final goal would be to understand whether the external environment, the politics, the regulations… are correlated (and by how much) to the level of investments in PE and VC and whether those factors are constraining the PE investment opportunities in China.
I will use the USA and Europe as benchmarks and comparisons. However, in the results, I will focus more on the USA because it will help me understand whether PE investments in the USA are less affected by the factors mentioned above and hence, questioning China’s attractiveness (and then linked it to the tech war).
