Task 1
Your research proposal is not marked as part of the assignment; however it is crucial to the
success of your discussion to camera in Task 2, which is the assessed portion of this brief.
The research proposal comprises three sections, plus Project Plan and Ethics checklist.
Each of these sections is a draft chapter of the final project submission, to be edited and updated as
part of Assignment 2, later in the module.
A key benefit of drafting this research proposal is the 1-to-1 feedback session with your supervisor
after the submission of the recording. They will spend some time with you discussing the strengths
and areas for development of the proposal, and feed-forward ideas for your final project based on
how you explained the research in the video, and what is written in the paper.
Introduction (approximate word count: 500)
• Justification, hypothesis (if applicable), aim and objectives of the research;
• the background/introduction to your topic (including case study brief where appropriate);
• the reasons why you selected the topic (including stating the research problem);
• your research questions.
The introduction outlines reasons why you selected this topic, the research question, hypothesis or
data used to generate a theory, together with your research objectives.
Literature Review (approximate word count: 1,000)
• Your preliminary literature review, including theoretical framework, bibliography and
references.
The preliminary literature review chapter focusses on key writers, while critically evaluating theories
and academic and professional texts identified for this initial review. Include a reference list for these
texts that also includes sources noted for further reading later on.
Research Methodology (approximate word count: 500)
• Your proposed research methodology, including any potential ethical issues involved.
A discussion of the proposed methodology, any data sources to be utilised, supported by reference
to research methods texts and noting ethical considerations.
Project Plan; Research Ethics Checklist; Key references list (no word count)
• Project Plan: when you intend to complete the various stages of your project;
• Research Ethics checklist: confirm with your supervisor the appropriate level of consent
required to undertake the research;
• Key references list: at this point, a list of the most important sources for your research study.
Although it is a formative piece of work, your research proposal should:
• be written in an appropriate academic style;
• be appropriately and thoroughly referenced, using citation and reference to support
statements of fact;
• include your proposed project title
