Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to
succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university.
Anthropology is not only about research, it is about understanding factors of how humans have
developed the way they have and why. Preparing to obtain a lot of knowledge about your ancestors
can get overwhelming from time to time, and because of this, I have planned on how to succeed at
taking information and processing the information in a brisk way. While studying at Santa Monica
Community College(SMC) I would use textbooks and watch videos to learn Anthropology. When
watching videos about anthropology attracted me to the subject much more. I really like how
anthropologists would get to live near and observe the daily life of our ancestors. When learning
through textbooks it is much harder to get a picture image of what the person is seeing, because of
this I would read books published by Anthropologists such as Wade Davis to get a better picture of
what the anthropologist might see. Reading these books has really shown me what to expect as a
future anthropologist, and I loved it. I believe reading about previous anthropologist experiences is
the best way to learn about anthropology and truly understand it. Before I attend a 4-year college, I
plan to read more books from anthropologist authors such as Robert L. Carneiro and Helena Wulff.
Reading all of these books should have me ready and more advanced than any other anthropology
major applying to schools
