1) Package weight (in kg) is recorded for chemical containers of 1-kg nominal weight. See data presented
in the #1 tab of the Excel file. Assume the process has been validated to be in-control.
a) Would you accept the assumption of the data being normally distributed?
b) There is a lower specification limit at 0.985 kg. What is the Cpk (Ppk in Minitab)?
c) What is the overall expected PPM of the packages to be below the lower specification limit?
2) Patient waiting time to see a doctor or nurse is recorded (in minutes) for a hospital emergency
department. See data presented in the #2 tab of the Excel file. Assume the process has been validated
to be in-control.
a) Can the data be assumed to fit a normal distribution at α = 0.01?
b) Can the data be assumed to fit a lognormal distribution at α = 0.01?
c) What proportion of patients overall are expected to not see a doctor or nurse within ten
minutes of arrival? Hint: Convert the expected overall PPM to a proportion.
3) Data is collected for ten parts measured three times each by two operators. Using data presented in
the #3 tab of the Excel file and applying specifications of 50 +/- 10, perform a Gage R&R Study (Crossed)
in Minitab. Can the gauge adequately measure product?
4) Parts are assessed for quality of the paint finish by appraisers either accepting or rejecting the parts.
To evaluate the precision and accuracy of appraisers in training, the assessments of each appraisertrainee are compared to a known standard for each sample part. Using the data presented in the #4 tab,
perform the appropriate Attribute Agreement Analysis in Minitab. If appraisers need to at worst be able
to accurately assess paint finish quality on 80% of parts, which, if any, appraiser-trainees are ready for
