Nutrition, weight, body image, weight stigma, and health are all interrelated. We know nutrition plays a key role in our health. Getting adequate nutrients (calories, micro-, and macronutrients) are all necessary for us to be well and thrive. We frequently discuss nutrition in the context of physical health and we’ve created an unquestioned connection between weight and health. Broadening the scope of our understanding of health and what it means to be healthy, we’re beginning to learn more about weight and health, we’re expanding how we define health, and we are recognizing that weight is complex, that weight should not be used as a sole measure of health, and that weight is not a behavior. We’re also understanding the significant impact weight stigma plays in health outcomes.
