Infection Control Policies and Procedures

To complete this task, you will need to have access to the following documents:

• Your workplaces Infection Control Policies and Procedures guidelines
• Your workplaces skin needling (or other skin penetrating treatment) Policy and Procedure guidelines
• A copy of your state/territory and local councils Infection Control Laws and Regulations surrounding Skin Penetrating treatments.

Task Instructions:

The table provided to you below contains a number of Infection Prevention work place requirements. You are required to use the above mentioned documents, in order to help you determine whether your current workplace is compliant or not compliant in the appropriate infection prevention measures.

In the Evidence column, you are required to provide evidence on how your workplace demonstrates this compliance. You can do this by describing the ways in which your workplace incorporates these requirements within their policies, procedures, systems or systemic processes in day to day practices. If your workplace does not demonstrate compliance, you are required to describe the ways in which they are not compliant within this column. If the compliance requirement isn’t relevant to your workplace, please write ‘Not Applicable’.

For example:

Hand Washing:  Policy / procedure outlines the requirements of hand washing and PPE. This is reinforced with posters around the clinic. Discussion on handwashing process is completed at each staff meeting. Materials provided at handwashing stations include liquid soap and paper towel. My workplace however does not use sensor taps, as per my local council guidelines.

In the compliant columns, please identify ‘yes or no’ to determine if compliance has been met or not met.

For the example provided above, you would tick ‘no’ as they are not fully compliant.

In the Rectification Actions for Non-Compliances section, here you are required to make suggested changes in order to improve your workplaces Infection Prevention procedures. Address each non-compliance category in which you identified, and make rectification suggestions for each.

For example, to rectify the example provided above- you would put forward the necessity to remove existing basins and replace with basins that incorporate sensor taps, in order to meet council requirements.
