Identify improvement opportunities in catheter care through:

Providing in-service trainings with staff of need of change and improvement.

Train staff to enable improvement at the facility.

Provide tools to engage staff to reduce barriers.

Evaluate team engagement- teach back method

Project Rationale

Project will benefit the patients, hospitals, insurance agencies, and providers by reducing recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).

Personal/Professional Expectations

With this project, I plan to reduce hospitalizations for UTIs, reduce recurrent UTIs by properly educating the patient/family and ensuring that staff are well trained to reduce catheter-associated UTIs.

Project Goals

To provide safe-centered patient care in prevention/reducing catheter-associated UTIs.

Procedure

Hold in-service with staff (UTIs, proper perineal care, medication management)

Gather a list of patients that have recurrent hospitalizations/UTIs.

Reassess number of UTIs for the next 3 months for reduction in numbers.

Expected outcomes

The number of patients with recurrent UTIs and hospitalizations will decrease in number.

Staff will provide proper perineal care to patients with catheters.

Patients will be properly educated on prevention of UTIs.

Providers will order catheters as the last option and will shorten the length of catheter use.
