Hierarchy Ads: Choose a level of Maslow’s hierarchy and locate an advertisement
There are two parts to your initial thread. Your initial thread should be 250-350 words in length. Make sure to complete both components to get full credit!
Part 1: Maslow’s Worksheet: Fill out the attached “Maslow Worksheet” (see below). Try to be as specific as possible. (Example: Social needs – I play soccer, have a boyfriend or girlfriend, hang out with my friends every Friday night, go bowling with my family on Sundays…etc). Think through what you can do to meet those unmet needs. Again, be specific. Attach your worksheet to your initial discussion board thread.
Part 2: One Word: Choose one of the two following prompts for your initial thread. Make sure to include information from your textbook and course materials to explain and support your post!
- Option 1 – One Word: They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. Find a picture/image that describes how you are currently feeling – in your life or in the semester or at work, whatever best captures where you are. Get creative. Your image cannot contain any letters or words, just an image. Include the image in your initial discussion board thread. Then, use words! Using information from the textbook and course materials, explain and analyze where in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs does this word fit? (Don’t forget about Maslow’s second set of needs – the cognitive needs of “know” and “understand”.) Does this word reflect a need that is not being met?
- Option 2 – Hierarchy Ads: Choose a level of Maslow’s hierarchy and locate an advertisement (online, YouTube, or physical newspaper or magazine) in which its objective is to address/target the level of hierarchy you have chosen. Include a copy of the advertisement (a link or screenshot) in your initial thread. Using information from the textbook and course materials, explain and analyze how this advertisement reflects a particular need in Maslow’s hierarchy.
Replies
There are 2 parts to the replies:
2. You will also be evaluated on the number of “touches” you make to others’ posts or replies to your
initial post. These can be brief acknowledgements that you appreciate someone’s feedback. The more “touches” (times you engage), the more points you will receive.
