An analysis is an essay that dissects the literary work assigned. It is not a summary of
the work. It tells about the literary elements used in the work by the author.

You will find four sources for your short story assigned. All sources should come from
the AVL(Alabama Virtual Library). One source must be the short story itself. Using the
four sources, you will write a paper approximately 800 Words long, not counting the
Works Cited page. Your paper will explore at least three of the literary elements used
by the author of the short story. You must include in text citations for quotes, summar-
ies, and paraphrases. Your paper must include a Works Cited page with the correct
bibliographic information on each of the sources used from the AVL. You must cite from

all four of the sources.

DO NOT USE ABSTRACTS as a source.
ARTICLES FOUND THROUGH INTERNET SEARCH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Sources should be listed in alphabetical order by last name of the author (or title) of the article.

You must use correct MLA format for the paper, citations, and all bibliography information. You may
use your grammar text as a resource. Owl at Perdue is another great website for MLA examples of

citations and bibliographic format.

Evaluation will be on completeness, following directions for submission, compliance with MLA style,
grammatical and mechanical correctness, and adequate content.
