For our second paper, we’ll have 2 choices of topic. Both choices will have the following elements in common, and will be graded on:

Paper will be between 500 words (not including the Works Cited page)

Paper will be written in MLA format and include both in-text citations and a Works Cited page

Paper will include 2 additional high quality sources outside of the novels we read for class

Paper will be the original work of the student, and properly cite all sources

Paper will follow the topic instructions, and have a purposeful thesis that makes a point about the books

Choice #1: Explore the elements of history that have been altered for Watchmen, and discuss what these changes reflect in the idea that the world has ‘Superheroes’ or ‘Costumed Avengers’. Use sources of information on the history of the Vietnam war, Nixon’s presidency, and any other differences you find. Then, explain why these changes make a larger point about politics, crime, or other sociological elements of the world in the graphic novel.
