You will develop a PowerPoint presentation consisting of 8–10 slides addressing how you will negotiate concerning the following scenario.

Scenario: Due to staff shortages, you have been working very long hours for the last few months without additional compensation. Although you have already taken your two weeks of standard vacation time for the year, your family has a ____ (name your special event) coming up, and you want to take an additional ten days of vacation but would settle for a week. You approach your boss one day in the office and say, “Boss, I want to take a few weeks off to attend (name your special event) in a month.” The boss replies, “Haven’t you taken all your vacation already?” You respond, “Well, yes.” The boss then says, “Sorry, no can do.”

In a PowerPoint presentation, apply the negotiation steps from the reading area.

• Explain at least three reasons why the original negotiation failed.
• Present your rationale for your request, including at least three supporting details.
• Devote at least one slide to each of the negotiation steps in the reading area:
  • Explain your minimum opening and ending/optimum negotiation strategy. Refer to step 1 of the negotiation steps.
  • Identify key pieces of information needed to support your request. Refer to step 2 of the negotiation steps.
