Do you know the reason ice floats in your drink? It is because the density of ice is lower than that of water. Chemistry is happening all around you at all times (both physical and chemical changes). What have you observed within the last week that involves chemistry? What is that process/reaction?

My best-educated theory is that as the water freezes, everything compacts. Ice floats in a drink because the liquid’s density makes the ice cubes float as they dissolve into the liquid base. A chemistry experience that has surrounded me I had never really considered was when I had oatmeal every morning before leaving for work. I have a packet of steel oats, and I use the package to fill it with water. It advises not to use warm or hot water, and I had to put two and two together tonight. Once I have filled the packet up to the line with water, I empty it into the bowl, place it into the microwave, and cook it for two minutes and thirty seconds. The oats expand and soak up the water. Just like rice soaks up the water, so do the oats.
