Describe the purpose of a risk assessment

For this week’s assignment, you will develop a training for mental health professionals. Imagine you were asked by a
director of a mental health agency to provide continuing education training on risk assessment and safety planning for
their therapy staff.

Based on this week’s resources and others you have located, develop an & to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation that
addresses the following:

Describe the purpose of a risk assessment.
Identity the types of risk

Address cultural variances in risk assessment.

Explain how to conduct a risk assessment.

Discuss your state-specific reporting requirements,

Include what state agencies handles investigations of child abuse and elder abuse, their phone numbers, and who is
considered @ mandated reporter in your state. Are there methods for confidential reporting and do these apply to
therapists?

Include the guidelines for handling suicidal clients (are MFTS allowed to place clients on psychiatric holds in your state?)
and guidelines for handling threats to others (does your state have a version of the Tarasoff ruling?)

Describe how to create a safety plan.

Identify additional resources for risk assessment and safety planning.

Your PowerPoint presentation should include audio of your presentation and presenter notes. Support your presentation
with at least three scholarly resources; include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format
style where appropriate
