Learning Goal: I’m working on a nursing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

  • How does this case still affect you and your practice? I move to Houston, Texas and decided to work in the public health sector as a public health nurse and have been helping the community with vaccination and other infectious diseases.
  • What steps have you taken to overcome the stress of this event? (Remember to protect patient privacy). I changed my field of practice from medsurg to public health nurse where I was able to better manage my stress and became a better nurse for my community.
• Explain the importance of debriefings.
  • If a debriding would happen in your workplace who would be involved, what would be discussed, who would lead the debriefing, where would it take place? In my current place of work with the county as a public health nurse, if a debriefing would happen, it would take place over a video conference meeting, and it would involve my clinical oversite manager, my supervisor, and us, nurses. The debriefing would be led by a clinical oversite leader where incident description and ways to improve and mitigate such an event in the future can be implemented.
