Comments in green CAPITAL LETTERSare major errors. Major errors are run-on sentences, fragments, subject/verb agreement errors, pronoun agreement errors, pronoun reference errors, verb form errors, and mixed construction errors.

If you have more the one major error in your essay, your grade was reduced as I indicated it would be in the instructions for this assignment.

Correcting all the major errors in your essay will raise your grade on the essay by 10%. In order to have your grade raised, ALL the major errors must be PROPERLY corrected.

Follow instructions below.

Do not resubmit your essay.

In a new WORD document, copy ONLY the sentence with the major error.
Number the sentence.
Paste in the original sentence (the one with the major error).
Explain the major error.
Correct the major error. (There may be more than one correct way to fix a major error. You may correct it any way you like s long as you fix it.)
Do this for ALL the major errors and ONLY the major errors in your essay.

Sample:

Even if I work overtime for a month; I will not earn enough money to buy the camera I want. [ORIGINAL SENTENCE]
Fragment. The semicolon makes the dependent clause (“Even if I work overtime”) into a fragment. [IDENTIFICATION OF AND EXPLANATION OF ERROR]
Even if I work overtime for a month, I will not earn enough money to buy the camera I want. [CORRECTED SENTENCE]
I hate being late, therefore, I always leave early. [ORIGINAL SENTENCE]
Run-on sentence. “Therefore” is a conjunctive adverb and cannot connect two independent clauses. [IDENTIFICATION OF AND EXPLANATION OF ERROR]
I hate being late, and, therefore, I always leave early. [CORRECTED SENTENCE]
I did not get the job. Even though I am the most qualified. [ORIGINAL SENTENCE]
Fragment. “Even though I am the most qualified” Is a dependent clause and needs to be connected to an independent clause to make it into a complex sentence. [IDENTIFICATION OF AND EXPLANATION OF ERROR]
I did not get the job even though I am the most qualified. [CORRECTED SENTENCE]
