QNT 2020 Project 1
Based on what we have learned in the class, the purpose of this project isto conduct some kind of modeling analysis, form a hypothesis fromthat, collect data necessary to test this hypothesis, performtests andinterpretthe results. This will be in a paper format and you will give an oral presentationtotheclass. You can work in groups up to four people total including you. Write me a proposal for what you want to do with your group. Youcangetideas from searching Management, Marketing, Retail, Media datasets. It
must be within those topics only. I will also show you a sample project
later on a week or two after. One possible website to find data fromiswww.kaggle.com
Project proposal
This must be well thought out and we want to make sure you arecollecting the right kinds of data. Your proposal must be up to2paragraphs nicely written. Wait for approval from me before youstart yourproject. Your proposal should have a title, should be well organized, a list of yourgroup members. One person can email it to me fromeach group. Explainyour background of the project (why you find it interesting). What aresome questions you might ask from the data you found and wheredidyoufind your starting sources. Lastly, there should be a timeline for theproject. These items should be in your proposal.  A list of the group members with correct spellings of first andlast
names
 The title of the project  An explanation of why you find the topic interesting
 A potential hypothesis (see below under Written report sectionwhereit says Inferential statistics)  Data set (minimum of 1)
 What you plan to analyze from the data set, what topics youplantoutilize such as: Z/t tests, Probability, Discrete/Continuous
distributions, Regression, Analysis of Variance, Nonparametricstatistics
Written report (Not due until deadline)
This must be double spaced and printed. I want no more than 7pagesandat least 4 pages. It should have an abstract (background/introduction) tothe problem with the claim being tested, the context of the data, anyproblems with collecting the data. Descriptive statistics, appropriate graphs and tables
Inferential statistics with clearly defined null and alternate hypothesis. Ex. I
have a car data set with 93 variables and 2000 datapoints. I want topredict the best characteristics that define a customer who is morelikelyto buy a certain car. My null hypothesis is that the variables that most
affect the car purchase are MPG, four wheel vs two wheel drivecars, model of car and color. My alternate hypothesis may be affectedbyotherfactors (Formal representation of the hypotheses will be given inclass). I
will start with descriptive statistics, formulate a hypothesis, try out somedistributions such as the binomial approximation to normal andnonparametric methods if the data is not normal. I will also try tousePython. Statistical output including test statistics and p-values, goodnessof fit
measures, etc. Summary and final conclusions of the project
Suggestions for going beyond the project. Oral presentation
This will be a 5 minute presentation with 2 minutes of Q&A, soatotal of 7minutes.
The powerpoint should at the minimum include an introductionof thetopic, what kinds of data were collected, methods used, interesting trendsyounoticed, results, things your group did and what your group wouldliketodo in the future to make this project even better. Tools:
Excel must be used for this project. For extra credit feel free touseothertools. For the presentation, treat it as if you are presenting this to a client. This will be due on November 11
