After doing some research, I found that Arthur Jensen was an educational psychologist that published very controversial material. He began studying at the University of California in 1945, continued his studies at the San Diego State College, and wrapped up his education at Columbia University in 1956 earning his title as a Ph.D. He became a professor at the University of California and continued to do his very own research. Moving forward, Jensen believed that the intelligence score gap between African American and Caucasian students was because of inherent genetic differences. In Jensen’s research, he gave a diverse racial group a g-loaded intelligence test. The “g” stands for general intelligence, which is also known as a g factor. Data showed that there was a lower score of about 15 points within African American students compared to Caucasian students on standardized IQ testing. Test bias happens when other cultures do not receive the same equal results or opportunities as Caucasians. It is putting another group of individuals at a disadvantage, which in this case seems to represent cultural bias. Today, we can correct the situation in a handful of ways.

One being by providing fair and equitable tests. Some children or people need other forms of test such as non-verbal testing and more. Rather than just doing standard forms of testing, “You can also suggest or research test that demonstrate student ability through multiple intelligences…”. (Bright Hub, 2010) Providing different options for individuals can give them room to express themselves and to justify their answer. Today, I believe that we do rely heavily on test results. Not everyone is going to test to the best of their ability when they are asked to test. There are a lot of things an individual can do successfully that may not be on a test. Moreover, there has been the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) placed to ensure that all individuals have equal chances of success. Another that ensures success is The Civil Act Rights of 1964. It is against discrimination which goes for race, color, religion, sex, or even national origin.
