Week 5 Assignment, Part 1: Analyzing student work to improve instruction and provide student support. (W5LO1,W5LO2, W5LO3, W5LO4, CLO2,CLO3, CLO5)
Hattie (2009) noted in order for teachers to be aware of how they are doing that you must provide them feedback. Examining student work is a powerful way to analyze the connection between a teacher’s pedagogical practice and student achievement. Examining student work allows you to determine the connection between the learning objective, the lesson and the level of student understanding. This process can help you determine if the assignment allowed the student to show what they know about the topic. The information gathered during this process then provides the teacher valuable feedback to know how they are doing and next steps for professional growth.
For this part of the assignment you will be asked to analyze student work, research strategies to help improve instruction and learning, and create a report outlining your findings, research, and plans for a presentation for a PLC group.

THE FOLLOWING STEPS HELP YOU PREPARE A REPORT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT. YOU DO NOT RESPOND TO EACH STEP. YOUR SUBMISSION WILL BE AN EIGHT PARAGRAPH REPORT DESCRIBED AFTER THE STEPS.
Step 1: for the assignment, you will be asked to collect student work samples from your campus. You will need 3 student sets of work samples in order to complete this assignment. You will analyze the work samples for learning gaps, trends, evidence of implementation of curriculum, and achievement.

To assist those who may need access to samples of student work, we have posted the shared link below. It contains samples of elementary level student work that was found on the internet. You are welcome to use them for your week 5 assignment, if you need samples.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THESE SAMPLES. We are merely trying to help those who do not currently have access to other documents. (If you have samples of work in your classes, use them. Using your student work makes the activity relevant to you.) The documents below will be helpful to some who do not have access to student work. Please read the instructions in this module carefully.

Step 2: You will then create a document of your choice to show your analysis and findings of each teacher’s student work samples.

Step 3: Researching and Selecting appropriate instructional strategies
This part of the assignment will allow you use data from your student work analysis and findings to make decisions as an instructional leader. Do research and choose an instructional strategy that could be used by this teacher to increase student engagement and achievement in the chosen targeted skill area. Use APA format and citations when appropriate.

Step 4: You will use your student work data and research findings to prepare a presentation for a PLC meeting with this group of teachers. You will not actually present it to the group but write up a report.

Description of the teacher(s) chosen to submit the student work and why you chose them for your assignment

Paragraph 2-5 (create one paragraph for each set of classroom or individual assignments, and a summary of findings – a total of four paragraphs)

Be sure to reference any artifacts you created that could be shared with your PLC during a presentation.

Explain your instructional decision-making process and research to find strategies to improve instruction and student achievement. (Include a recommended step by step explanation of a strategy with your artifacts in your report.)

How do you plan to present the information to the teachers in a PLC group? Include artifacts for top scores.
How do you plan to implement, monitor, and measure success of your suggested improvements to this group of teachers? Artifacts help earn top scores.

A coversheet and double spacing are not required. Type your answer in the space below. What learning was new to you? Have you cleared up all your muddiest points or do you still have points that need clarification? What are your key points of learning for the course? How does the learning in the course connect to your learning so far in this program and in your practicum activities? As you move into administration how will you use the learning from this course?
