Learning Goal: I’m working on a policy discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

This week’s discussion board topic invites you to discuss the work public health scientists do to

identify disparities in health status, in health care, and in health outcomes. To earn participation

points, follow the instructions below and the discussion guidelines and rubric.

1. In earlier discussions, you have described a population you’d be excited to work with in

your first public health job (Americans with Disabilities). How should public health officials identify which individuals

belong to that population? How should new programs and policies be designed so that

they reach the targeted population instead of others who are not suffering from the

disparity?

2. Compose a 100-word paragraph to share your thoughts on this topic.

3. In the discussion board, create a new thread with a creative title that tells the reader

what your post is about. In the body of your post, share your 100-word paragraph.

Discussion Board Guidelines

From time to time this semester, we will use the Discussion Board feature as a graded asynchronous activity. Evaluation of initial postings and responses will be based on the following criteria. Everyone is expected to:

1- Participate on at least 2 different days.

2- Provide an answer to the assigned initial discussion and respond to at least one other participant’s thread.

3- Initial post should be a minimum of one short paragraph and a maximum of three paragraphs (approximately 100-300 words). Whether you agree or disagree explain why with supporting evidence and concepts from the readings or a related experience.

4- Be organized in their thoughts and ideas.

5- Incorporate correlations with the assigned readings or topics.

6- Stay on topic.

7- Provide evidence of critical thinking and thoughtfulness in their responses or interactions. 8- Contribute to the learning community by being creative in their approaches to topics, being relevant in the presented viewpoints, and attempting to motivate the discussion.
